Incredible skills to use anywhere, energy management and feel for the water. No barriers. Your imagination is the only limitation.
Flat Water Trickery is still a fairly new event for the H Festivals but its created a ton of interest.
It's all about flow, the way everything comes together. A paddler may do a trick, stop and do another trick. This would score less than a ride where a paddler keeps the boat moving through one trick into another. This applies, even if the movement between tricks is not scoring.
Classes: Male and Female
Intermediate — you regularly do freestyle but have not made top 10 in a national standard competition in the last two years (in feature-based freestyle)
Elite — you compete regularly and have made top 10 in a national standard competition in the last two years (in feature-based freestyle)
Rules: Boat must be a surface boat – old school, new school, but no Squirt.
Scoring: Variety, Difficulty and Flow.
Variety = number of different tricks. Variety (V) gives a score representative of the number of tricks done. For this example, let’s say you hit 10.
Difficulty = how hard the trick is. Difficulty (D) gives a multiplier based on achieving at least two tricks from a zone in the trick list. For example, if you hit two tricks or more from zone 5 (Jedi Master), your difficulty score is 2*5=10.
Flow = how the movements in the ride join. Flow (F) is about time. If you maintain flow for 6 seconds, your score would be V*D*F or 10 *10 * 6, giving you a total score of 600.
